The Darlo Bar at the Royal Sovereign Hotel has a really cool indie vibe. It reminds me of being back at Purple Sneakers - indie music, well priced booze, and one of the most eclectic crowds I've found in a Sydney bar.

It’s a friendly, colourful space - the patio terrace upstairs provides a great place to chill out, especially on a particularly warm evening (which was the case on Friday. Located on Liverpool street, it’s the perfect setting for an after work beer while soaking up the summer sun. I could see it getting fairly busy during peak times, but I don't think that would deter people one iota.

They do $5 beer specials, which on this particular night was a Mountain Goat. I struggled through one (I hate pale ale with a passion) before going to my normal night staples of Carlton Draught and gin. The prices were really good considering the location.. I always feel like it's a small win when you buy a spirit with a tenner and get some gold back.

All in all it's a great place to have a few drinks with friends and chill out. Just don't expect to have an all-nighter - the lights came on at 12am!
